Home Stretch for Shakespeare and Amendments to Poe Challenge

I gave myself the task to read all of Shakespeare in September. To be clear, it's not a lot of reading in terms of word count. Many people read more than that daily for enjoyment. The reason it's a challenge for me is that I'm simply giving myself a deadline to finish a major writer's complete works.

I'm in the final 5 days of the "challenge." It's almost over, and I can see the end in sight. I'm slightly fatigued, mainly because Shakespeare's later works are not as enjoyable for me as his early-mid to middle works. Things started going downhill for me with Hamlet, which left me feeling uneasy. But Hamlet was nothing compared to MacBeth, which was a horrifying and bloody mess.

If the two most creepy Shakespeare stories were enough to throw me off during this challenge, then what exactly do I expect to be in for in October? I'm supposed to be reading all of Poe! Shakespeare's creepiest is still a rom com compared to anything by Poe.

In truth, I anticipated feeling a little uneasy reading Poe throughout the month. I thought it would get me in the Halloween mindset and set the mood for the month.

I still think that would work, but I'm realizing now that I have a lot of other things I would like to do and read. I'll have more updates on that later.

For now, I might instead commit to reading Poe for a certain block of time each day, or I might halve the number of pages I was expecting to read.

I may end up doing the challenge anyway, but my feeling now is that I need to be free to read whatever I want to at the moment, and that means giving myself a short break before embarking on another month long binge.
