Lock Your Doors Tonight

"Lock your doors tonight," he added before the cameras cut off. What did he mean by this?

I won't repeat his name here, because it's not worth mentioning. The press conference where this was spoken was focused on the subject of the recent UFOs being found all across the country. After claiming that the super secret senators-only debriefing revealed that the UFOs have been known about since 2017, he then said that nothing else was known about them. Then, at the end of the conference, after all questions were answered, he must have felt that he didn't sell the fear well enough. "Maybe I'll just add something to spook everyone out," he thought to himself.

I felt genuine anger at his words. It is probably the single most infuriating sentence I've heard spoken. Why? Because he was trying to sell fear.

He wasn't even good at it. He came off as desperate and pathetic. Is the audience supposed to fill in the blanks? Lock your doors tonight, because the creatures that flew lightyears across the universe in tiny car-sized spaceships are unable to open a simple wooden door. Lock your doors tonight, because the hostile foreign government you've been trained to fear has these flying geometric shapes that can sneak past our air defenses but are like vampires and can't come into your home unless invited.

It's ridiculous.

It's just fear. He isn't trying to protect you. He's trying to scare you.

Although I was angry at his words, I wasn't phased by them. I'm used to the fear-grift politicians and the media run around the clock. This particular saying caught my attention and earned my ire for its flaccid execution. It was like watching a pro athlete in a car insurance commercial. Was it a press conference about UFOs, or the sequel to Plan 9 from Outer Space? I hope the Mystery Science Theater guys get around to this one day.

The only thing worse than the scripts these days are the performers. Hopefully, other people caught on to it, too. The only question is what we are being purposefully distracted from this time.
