Sunday Munchies: To Relax Oneself

In Spanish, one doesn't simply "relax". Instead, one "relaxes oneself". Spanish seems to agree with English on sleeping, though, as one doesn't "sleep oneself". It makes me wonder if it is possible to use the reflexive verb as a transitive and directly "relax someone", and what, exactly, that would entail.

My wife and I watched Madame Webb yesterday. You know the movie is going to be good when the Rotten Tomatoes Critics Score is 13%. It's hard to believe that we live in a world where the exact opposite of the mainstream critics' view would be the best approximation of the quality of a movie, game, or show. Yet, here we are.

I'm not saying that Madame Webb is the movie of the year, nor am I saying that it's better than most super hero movies. But I will say that is MUCH better than ALMOST ALL of the recent super hero movies that have come out in the past few years, simply for the reason that it is not really a super hero movie. The movie is more comparable to Terminator than to Spider-Man. I would rate it at a 6.5 or even a 7. In a year, I would rewatch it, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy it like I have bought some of the best super hero movies over the years, such as the Dark Knight trilogy.

On the subject of movies, we also started Oppenheimer today. It is going exactly as I expected. It's not too exciting, and it's not too boring. It's a movie that normal people will watch and say that they enjoyed in order to appear more intelligent. But the reality is that it is more like watching Inception if the it focused only on the NASA side of things and avoided all the space adventure. And avoided all the math and science. Do you really think a MAJOR Hollywood movie would be allowed to accurately describe the process of creating a nuclear bomb? To be honest, the story of Oppenheimer would be better told as a The Office style reality-show comedy taking place solely in the context of the actual Manhattan Project.

Finally, if you're feeling down or suffering from anything, remember that God not only loves you but cares so deeply about you that he sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for you. Jesus literally healed a man blind from birth and gave him sight. He brought a dead boy back to life out of compassion for his widowed mother who was mourning the loss of her only son. And He cares about you, and wants you to turn from your sins and come to Him. Jesus created the world and everything in it. He listens to you, and He cares about you.

Don't go to Jesus expecting anything in return, but remember that He can and does answer your prayers. This world was created by Him and He is fully capable of performing miracles and healing you. Remember that He loves you, and love Him in return.
